1/26/08 Results and Highlights

01/26/08
Before the Races Paul Damberger and Jeff Glover of COP CAR Racing, displayed their cars in front of Wal-Mart spreading the message of R.A.D., Racers Against Drugs and handing out free tickets for the Imperial Valley Speedway Grand stands. RAD is an organization to tell kids that “you can’t do drugs and race”, quote Paul Damberger Imperial Valley Speedway is the fastest 3/8 mile track below sea level, located near El Centro CA.

Pure Stock
Starting with 13 cars in the Pure Stock main event, and after a hearted race with many wrecks on the track, only six of the original 13 cars managed to cross the finish line. Tommy Daffren, #01, took first place with William Lineses, #28, and Cole Edgemon, #60 right behind in second and third.

Factory Stock
Seven laps into the race, Factory Stock car #33 stopped on the track as flames and smoke billowed from his hood. Track fire and rescue crews rushed to the scene and quickly put out the fire. Sean Callens, the driver of the #33 car, walked away unharmed. The remaining race was heated and close with Nathan Rock of the #5 car just barely beating out Lowell Buck, #8, in second, and Tommy Ferriera, #20, in third.

Pro Stock
With Eric Evans quickly moving from 3rd place position to a healthy 1st place lead, it looked like we might have a repeat of last week; however, with just four laps to go to the checkered flag, Eric stopped just past turn four and his left rear tire went bouncing back across the track. With Evans out of the race, newly wed (just wedded today at the track) Jason Hickingbottom not only won his sweetheart's hand in marriage, he also clinched a 1st place! hickingbottom was followed by Leonard Jones, #12, in second and Mitch Edgemon, #60, in third.

Pro Dwarfs
As a special event, Barona Pro Dwarf class joined the evening line-up with ten cars. Running a smooth, clean race without any cautions, here's how the top three crossed the finish line: Bob Brown Jr, #22; Jim Scriballito, #57; and Eddie R. Morris, #77. We look forward to possibly seeing the Pro Dwarfs race again here at Imperial Valley Speedway in the near future.

IMCA Modified
With a roar of thunder the IMCA Modifieds tore up the track and put on another exciting show at Imperial Valley Speedway. 17 year-old, Randy Brown, #16, took his first 1st place win ever in the IMCA Modified class.

During Intermission
Jason Hickingbottom and his girlfriend Heather had a real race track wedding during intermission. No black flags during this ceremony, and only checkered flags after the wedding, with happy parents in tow.
